The ExSite Enhanced Thermal 2 Series Fixed is a thermal imaging camera built for continuous perimeter and access-point surveillance in environments where a conventional camera cannot be relied on. Rather than capturing reflected light, a thermal sensor reads the heat radiating from people, vehicles and machinery. Detection therefore does not depend on scene lighting at all, and the camera produces the same usable image at midnight as it does at midday.
That property is what makes thermal the standard choice for a site boundary. There is no need for perimeter floodlighting, no glare from oncoming headlights, and no blind spell while an illuminator warms up. Smoke, light fog, drizzle and foliage that would obscure a visual camera have far less effect on a thermal image, so a target crossing a fence line stays visible in conditions that would otherwise cost you the detection.
The camera is housed in heavy-duty stainless steel, which is the reason this series appears so often on coastal and industrial sites. Salt-laden air, wash-down regimes and corrosive process atmospheres all shorten the life of painted or plated enclosures; a stainless housing is specified where the camera is expected to stay in service for years without the enclosure becoming the weak point.
It is a fixed camera rather than a pan-tilt-zoom unit, and for boundary work that is a deliberate advantage. The field of view never moves, so the scene the operator sees is the same scene every time and cannot be left pointing the wrong way. A constant field of view is also what video analytics need: tripwire and intrusion-zone rules stay calibrated against a frame that does not change, which keeps false alarms down and makes the camera suitable for unattended, alarm-driven monitoring rather than continuous watching.

In most designs thermal is paired with a visual camera: the thermal channel detects that something has crossed the line, and the visual channel provides the recognisable image needed to decide what to do about it.
