TANlock: modular rack-enclosure access control with seven authentication technologies.
TANlock by Eaton is a modular access control system for IT rack enclosures, developed with lock manufacturer Fath Mechatronics. It offers seven different authentication technologies across two smart lock models, so cabinet access is controlled and recorded rather than left to a common key.
Seven authentication technologies, two smart lock models
Built for rack and cabinet access, not building doors
It is worth being clear at the outset what this is, because the phrase access control usually
means doors. TANlock is access control for rack and cabinet enclosures - the equipment cabinets
themselves - rather than for building entrances. That distinction matters when specifying, and it
identifies a gap most sites have.
The gap is this. A site will invest heavily in controlling who enters the building and the
equipment room, and then fit every cabinet inside it with the same common key - often one that
came with the enclosure and is shared across the estate. Anyone who reaches the room reaches
every cabinet in it, and nothing records who opened what or when. On a site where cabinets
contain switches carrying the CCTV and PAGA systems, control equipment, or servers holding
operational data, that is a real exposure and it is invisible on any access control report.
Eaton address it with TANlock, developed in partnership with the lock manufacturer Fath
Mechatronics, and describe it as the most versatile modular access control system in the market
on the strength of offering seven different authentication technologies. That range is the point
rather than a boast: different sites authenticate differently, and a lock that only accepts one
credential type forces a second system on anyone whose staff already carry something else. Where
technicians already hold site access cards, the sensible configuration reads those cards, so
cabinet access uses the credential people already have and appears alongside their other access
records.
Two smart lock models are available, which gives a choice of how much capability each cabinet
needs. Being modular is what makes the system practical to deploy in stages - the cabinets
holding the most sensitive equipment can be fitted first, with the rest following as budget
allows, rather than requiring an estate-wide programme to begin.
The value in practice is the record as much as the restriction. Knowing which cabinet was
opened, by whom and when turns a change nobody admits to into a documented event, and it is
frequently the fastest route to understanding why something stopped working last Tuesday. Where
building door access control, gates or turnstiles are the requirement instead, that is a
different system and we specify it separately - tell us which you need and we will scope it
accordingly.
Features
Seven authentication technologies. Eaton's basis for calling it the most
versatile modular system available.
Uses credentials people already carry. Can read existing site cards rather
than adding a second credential.
Two smart lock models. So each cabinet gets the capability it needs
rather than a single specification everywhere.
Modular deployment. Fit the sensitive cabinets first and extend later,
without an estate-wide programme.
Closes the common-key gap. Replaces the shared enclosure key that
undermines room-level access control.
Records as well as restricts. Who opened which cabinet and when, which is
often how a mystery fault gets explained.
Developed with a lock specialist. Eaton partnered with Fath Mechatronics
rather than building the mechanism themselves.
Applications
Cabinet-level access control, wherever room-level control is not enough.
Equipment and comms rooms. Switch and controller cabinets holding CCTV,
PAGA and network equipment.
Server and data cabinets. Where operational and personal data sits.
Shared and colocation spaces. Where more than one party has room
access.
Control rooms. Panels and cabinets that should not be opened
casually.
Field and remote cabinets. Roadside, perimeter and outbuilding
enclosures.
Audited environments. Where physical access to equipment has to be
demonstrable.
Support & Documents
PT Vivo Asia Teknologi Indonesia supplies the balance-of-plant items that a system needs
alongside its headline equipment, and installs them as part of the same scope. Our
involvement typically covers:
Selection against the specification, the area classification and the installation method.
Sizing and schedule preparation, working from your drawings or ours.
Supply from stocked or sourced product, with documentation and certificates.
Installation, termination and testing as part of the wider system.
Spares provisioning and ongoing maintenance.
Types, ratings and approvals vary by item and are confirmed at quotation stage against
the manufacturer's current data. Send us the specification or the schedule and we will come
back with a compliant offer and a full bill of materials.
