SAILOR 6081 Power Supply

Modular PSU and charger for the SAILOR 6000 series, with battery switchover.

The SAILOR 6081 is a modular power supply and charger for the SAILOR 6000 series communication and safety systems. It provides intelligent battery charging, seamless AC-to-battery switchover, and remote monitoring over Ethernet.

  • Seamless AC-to-battery switchover keeps equipment up through an AC failure
  • Modular: up to four SAILOR 6080 modules, to 1200 W
  • Remote monitoring and alarms over Ethernet
SPECIFICATIONS
Type Modular PSU and battery charger
For SAILOR 6000 series
Output 270 W per SAILOR 6080 module, up to four
DC output 28 V nominal, or per battery configuration
IP rating IP30

Description

GMDSS is a carriage requirement, and a large part of that requirement is about power rather than about radios. The installation has to keep working when the ship's AC supply has gone, which means a reserve battery, a charger to keep it ready, and a transfer between the two that does not interrupt the equipment. The 6081 does all three for the SAILOR 6000 series.

Cobham Satcom describes the switchover as seamless, and that is the property that matters: power is maintained during an AC failure rather than restored after it, so a radio does not restart at the moment it is needed. Intelligent charging keeps the battery ready, and integrated alarm functions report when something is wrong with either the supply or the battery.

It is modular rather than a single fixed-rating box. Up to four SAILOR 6080 modules combine at 270 W each for as much as 1200 W, with load sharing between them, so the same architecture covers a small installation and a large one and can be extended later instead of replaced.

Two practical details are worth noting. An Ethernet interface lets the battery and power system be monitored and controlled from the bridge through a SAILOR 6018 Message Terminal - useful, because an aged reserve battery is the most common reason a GMDSS installation fails its annual test, and this makes its condition visible before then. And the design is fanless with no moving parts, which removes the failure point that usually decides how long a power supply lasts in a machinery space.

Features

  • Seamless AC-to-battery switchover. Power is maintained through an AC failure rather than restored after it, so equipment does not restart.
  • Intelligent charging. Keeps the reserve battery ready, with integrated alarm functions when it is not.
  • Modular to 1200 W. Up to four SAILOR 6080 modules at 270 W each, with load sharing, so the system is extended rather than replaced.
  • Remote monitoring over Ethernet. Battery and power status visible from the bridge through a SAILOR 6018 Message Terminal.
  • Fanless, no moving parts. Removes the wear item that normally limits a power supply's life in a machinery space.
  • 28 V nominal DC. Or according to the battery configuration.
  • Made for the SAILOR 6000 series. Matched to the communication and safety equipment it feeds, not a general-purpose supply of similar rating.

Applications

  • New GMDSS installations. Supplied as part of a SAILOR 6000 series console.
  • Retrofits and upgrades. Where the radio equipment is being replaced and the power arrangement has to satisfy current requirements.
  • Survey remediation. Where an existing supply or battery arrangement has been found wanting.
  • Installations expected to grow. Where starting with fewer modules and adding later beats over-sizing now.
  • Offshore installations. Platforms and FPSOs carrying GMDSS equipment.

We supply the PSU, the battery and the installation as one scope, because the three have to work together to satisfy the requirement.

Support & Documents

PT Vivo Asia Teknologi Indonesia supplies and services radio and GMDSS equipment as part of a compliant installation rather than as a boxed item. Our scope typically covers:

  • Selection against the vessel's or facility's carriage requirements and area of operation.
  • Installation design: antenna siting, feeder runs, power supplies and battery backup.
  • Supply, installation, termination and commissioning.
  • Radio survey support, and coordination with class and flag administration where needed.
  • Programming, channel plans and licence documentation.
  • Annual testing, battery replacement and ongoing maintenance.

Approvals, frequencies and electrical details vary by variant and market and are confirmed against the current manufacturer datasheet at quotation stage. Tell us the vessel type or site, the flag and the equipment already installed, and we will come back with the right variant and a full bill of materials.
