Description

Entel built the industrial-grade DTEx DMR Digital Series to exacting standards, and this IECEx-certified portable is positioned as the marine variant of that range. It is designed to deliver remarkably loud and clear audio, and ultra-tactile buttons and high torque controls let it be operated even with gloved hands - the detail that decides whether a radio is actually usable on a cold, wet deck rather than merely rated for one.

The headline figure is ingress protection: Entel state a market-leading IP68 submersible rating of 2 metres for 4 hours, well beyond the one-metre, thirty-minute rating common on handhelds of this class. A radio that survives going over the side and being recovered later is a genuinely different proposition from one that survives a splash.

On the radio itself, it covers VHF 156 to 163 MHz across INT, USA and CAN channel modes plus private channels, at 12.5 kHz and 25 kHz spacing, transmitting 4 W on high power or 1 W on low - both figures matching the working range marine VHF is specified for. It runs from a CNB550EV2 1800 mAh lithium-ion battery at 7.4 V, and Entel's own figure for battery endurance is 13.5 hours on the standard 5 percent transmit, 5 percent receive, 90 percent standby duty cycle - which is the number that actually predicts whether the radio lasts a shift. The unit measures 138 x 60 x 38 mm and weighs 435 g.

Entel also state they have developed an extensive range of certified and approved audio accessories for the DTEx Series, including remote speaker microphones, bone conductive skull microphones and ear defender headsets - accessories that matter as much as the radio on a noisy deck, and which have to be certified alongside it in a classified area rather than substituted for a cheaper equivalent.

Features

  • IP68, 2 m for 4 hours. Entel's own market-leading claim, well beyond the usual 1 m/30 min rating.
  • 4 W high / 1 W low. On VHF 156-163 MHz, INT/USA/CAN plus private channels.
  • 13.5 hour battery endurance. Entel's stated figure on the standard 5/5/90 duty cycle, from a 1800 mAh Li-ion pack.
  • Ultra-tactile, high-torque controls. Operable with gloved hands, not just rated for them.
  • 435 g, 138 x 60 x 38 mm. Compact enough for all-shift carriage.
  • Certified accessory range. RSMs, bone conductive skull mics and ear defender headsets, all certified for use with the radio.

Applications

Sourced from Entel's own DT544 product page and specification tables.

  • Tankers and gas carriers. Cargo, ballast and tank operations.
  • Offshore platforms and FPSOs. Deck and process communications.
  • Bunkering and ship-to-ship transfer. Both parties working in classified areas.
  • Shipyards. Hot work, tank entry and confined-space supervision.
  • Terminals and jetties. Loading arm and manifold operations.

Support & Documents

PT Vivo Asia Teknologi Indonesia supplies and services radio and GMDSS equipment as part of a compliant installation rather than as a boxed item. Our scope typically covers:

  • Selection against the vessel's or facility's carriage requirements and area of operation.
  • Installation design: antenna siting, feeder runs, power supplies and battery backup.
  • Supply, installation, termination and commissioning.
  • Radio survey support, and coordination with class and flag administration where needed.
  • Programming, channel plans and licence documentation.
  • Annual testing, battery replacement and ongoing maintenance.

Approvals, frequencies and electrical details vary by variant and market and are confirmed against the current manufacturer datasheet at quotation stage. Tell us the vessel type or site, the flag and the equipment already installed, and we will come back with the right variant and a full bill of materials.
