BuildBuild-to-order - board, CPU and storage confirmed at quotation
Description
A remote work station is an operator position that is not in the control room. It might be a
gatehouse, a substation, a workshop, a jetty office or a marshalling area - somewhere a person
needs to see and interact with a system, but where the environment is not a clean office and the
machine cannot be an ordinary desktop PC.
This one is built on the Advantech IPC-631MB, a 4U rackmount chassis with a 350 mm short
depth. Its defining feature is that every I/O port, button, LED, drive bay and even the AC
inlet sit on the front face - which is what lets it be mounted in a rack pushed against a wall
or in an enclosure with no rear access, a real constraint in a gatehouse or a marshalling
cabinet. It accepts a standard ATX or Micro-ATX motherboard with a CPU TDP up to 120 W, and
ships with a 500 W or 700 W power supply depending on load. Storage runs to a slim optical
drive plus two hot-swappable and two internal 2.5" bays, with an optional module for RAID 0/1
across the hot-swap pair and a PWM-controlled smart fan.
The chassis is the fixed part; everything it is built around is not. Build-to-order is the
honest description of how these are bought, and it is what the BTO in the part number denotes.
There is no single correct specification beyond the enclosure, because the requirement is set
by what the station has to run: the number of displays, the decode load if it is showing video,
whether it needs serial ports for legacy equipment, and how dirty or hot the position is. A
machine specified for a gatehouse showing four camera streams is a different build from one
running a process HMI in a plant room, even inside the same chassis.
Tell us what the station has to display and control, how many screens, what power is
available and what the environment is like, and we will come back with a specified build - the
board, CPU, storage and ports fitted into this chassis.
Features
Front-access chassis. All I/O, buttons, LEDs, drive bays and the AC inlet
on the front, so it works in a rack or enclosure with no rear access.
4U short depth. 350 mm depth, rackmount, for cabinets that cannot take a
full-depth server chassis.
ATX/Micro-ATX support. CPU TDP up to 120 W, so the build can scale from a
light HMI to a heavier video-decode load.
500 W or 700 W PSU. Matched to the fitted board and load.
Hot-swap storage option. Two hot-swappable 2.5" bays for RAID 0/1, plus two
internal bays.
Specified from the requirement. Board, CPU, storage and ports settled
before quotation, inside a fixed, known chassis.
Applications
Operator positions outside the control room.
Gatehouses and security posts. Camera views and access control at the
boundary.
Substations and plant rooms. Local monitoring where the environment is
dirty or hot.
Workshops and stores. A rugged position on the shop floor.
Jetties and loading areas. Operational monitoring at the working
point.
Marine and offshore. Positions requiring panel or bulkhead
mounting.
Remote and unmanned sites. A durable machine where support visits are
infrequent.
Support & Documents
PT Vivo Asia Teknologi Indonesia supplies network infrastructure as a designed and
commissioned system rather than as a box of hardware. Our scope typically covers:
Requirements review: port counts, uplinks, resilience and growth headroom.
Wireless predictive design and, where warranted, an on-site survey.
Selection of industrial or enterprise hardware to suit the environment.
Supply, installation, structured cabling, termination and commissioning.
Configuration: VLANs, routing, segmentation and security policy.
Documentation, handover and ongoing support and maintenance.
Model availability, licensing and electrical details vary by variant and are confirmed
against the current manufacturer datasheet at quotation stage. Tell us the site layout, the
device count and any segregation you have to observe between control and business networks,
and we will come back with a design and a full bill of materials.
